STRONG OMAN-GERMAN TIES
For more than three decades, Oman and Germany have enjoyed
successful cooperation in the political, economic and
cultural fields. Germans are the largest private investors
on the Arabian Peninsula and are particularly attracted
to Oman because of the country’s drive for modernisation
and diversification, as well as its political, social
and economic stability.
Over the past years, the two countries have cooperated
over a high-profile archaeological project at Al Balid
in Salalah, and Oman has become a popular destination
for German visitors wanting to experience the country’s
legendary hospitality and cultural heritage. This fruitful
relationship between both countries has now been further
cemented with the establishment of the Oman-German University
of Technology (OGTech) in Muscat, a private university
affiliated to RWTH Aachen University, Germany.

THE UNIVERSITY
Guided by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said's strong commitment to providing excellence in education for the country's youth, the Oman-German University of Technology was established in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University to introduce to Oman and the region new, internationally recognised educational opportunities.
RWTH Aachen University was founded over 135 years ago and is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Germany. It is a member of the elite IDEA League, a strategic partnership of five of Europe's leading research universities, including Imperial College London, Delft University of Technology, ETH Zurich University and the Paris Institute of Technology. RWTH Aachen counts approximately 30,000 students, of which more than 5,500 are from overseas.
Through its affiliation with RWTH Aachen, the Oman-German University of Technology aims at educating highly qualified and responsible-minded students according to German standards and with a firm grounding in Omani heritage. The degrees offered will be recognised both in Oman and the European Union, thereby offering a wide range of options for students' future careers.
RWTH Aachen draws its strength from nurturing close ties
with industry in areas of research and development. The
same emphasis on close linkages to industry will form
a key pillar of the education at the Oman-German University
of Technology and will prepare its graduates to contribute
towards a growing economic and industrial base in Oman.
Degree courses will be complemented by application-oriented
education and training, giving all students hands-on experience
in their chosen field. The university's quest for educational
excellence will ensure strong employment prospects either
in Oman or internationally.

PROGRAMMES OF STUDY
The Oman-German University of Technology is looking forward
to welcoming its first students in September 2007. As
the entry requirements for OGTech are aligned with those
of RWTH Aachen University, most students will first be
enrolled into a Pre-University Programme. Depending on
their English language skills, students will either be
placed into an Intensive English Programme or directly
into a Foundation Programme.
Successful completion of the Pre-University Programme
will equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills
to embark on one of OGTech’s Bachelor of Science
Programmes. The initial choice of Bachelor Degrees will
include Applied Geosciences, Applied Information Technology,
Regional Management and Tourism, as well as Urban Design
and Urban Planning.
Additional programmes, both at undergraduate level (e.g.
Mechanical Engineering) and postgraduate level (Masters
and PhD studies), are scheduled to be introduced in the
near future.

AN INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION IN OMAN
Students studying at the Oman-German University of Technology
will benefit from an international university education
while remaining close to home. They may, during their
studies, spend part of their time at RWTH Aachen in Germany,
thereby gaining valuable exposure outside their home country.
Students in Europe will also benefit from hosting visitors
from the Arabian Peninsula by gaining an understanding
and knowledge of customs and traditions that will bridge
cultural gaps and cement international friendships.
RWTH Aachen University states that “Success does
not come from one day to the next but is rather the result
of goal-directed, fine-tuned and continuous endeavour
on the part of those involved within the university …”,
a goal the people of Oman and Germany can achieve together
in the spirit of international cooperation.
